Glucose
What it measures
Glucose is the main sugar in your blood and your body's primary source of energy.
Often reported in mg/dL. Reference ranges differ between laboratories, ages and sexes, so always compare with the range printed on your own report.
Why it matters
A single glucose reading is heavily influenced by when you last ate, so one result outside range is usually a starting point for more context, not a conclusion.
Questions worth asking
- Was this a fasting or non-fasting sample?
- Would an HbA1c or repeat fasting test add useful context?
- Are there symptoms worth mentioning, like unusual thirst or fatigue?
